Theodore "Sam" Barbuto's Obituary
Theodore “Sam” Barbuto, 83, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Satriano, Italy and came to the United States at 15 years of age. Sam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, both on the front line and then as a cook. After a 45 year career, he retired from New Process Gear in 1997. Sam enjoyed many Italian traditions such as making homemade wine, gardening and playing the concertina. No one ever left his home hungry. He also looked forward to RVing at Brennan’s Beach every summer. Sam was a member of the Pioneer Horseshoe Club and several bowling and golf leagues. He was known as an excellent bowler and horseshoe player, winning many awards and titles. Sam was a kind person who was eager to help anyone without being asked. Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all.
He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Catherine (Maio) Barbuto and his brother, Antonio Barbuto.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rose (Manfredi) Barbuto; his daughter, Cathy (Vince) Figliomeni; his son, Sam (Sarah) Barbuto; five grandchildren, Rose, Theresa Marie, Kevin, Joey and Lisa; his great-granddaughter, Cadence “Kitty”; his brother, Frank (Lena) Barbuto of New Jersey, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
