Theresa (Pompo) Azzoto's Obituary
On January 22, Heaven welcomed a new resident. Theresa A. Azzoto, 92, passed away at Elderwood at Liverpool and entered into her new home on that day. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a nurturing grandmother, and a supportive sister.
Her working years were spent in retail, employed by various companies in downtown Syracuse. In her later years, while mainly being a homemaker, she worked part time in the meat department at the "Court Street Big M" where she loved interacting with the customers that shopped there. Over the years she made many friends both young and old. With her husband and constant companion, "Willie", she took several trips to casinos in Atlantic City and to the Turning Stone in Vernon. Theresa also took time to volunteer at The Francis House and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church bereavement committee, where she also was a communicant.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William L. "Willie" Azzoto who passed away in 2002; her parents, Joseph and Genavara (DeBardinis) Pompo; brothers, Robert, Thomas, William and Armond; sisters, Nancy Mento, Anna Mollica, Angela Ilacqua, Rose Troendle, Margaret Marsella, Stella Natalizio, and Delores Pompo.
Theresa is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Lillian S. (Grillo) Azzoto of Cicero; granddaughter, Melissa (Nathan) Pickard of Syracuse; grandsons, William M. Azzoto of Clifton Park, NY and Army Specialist Jeffrey P. Azzoto of Fort Hood, TX; a sister, Emma Scalione of Lyncourt along with several nieces and nephews.
Theresa's family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of the second floor at Elderwood for their constant care and concern for Theresa during her fifteen months that she was there.
