Theresa Josephine (Freitas) King's Obituary
Theresa “Terry" Josephine (Freitas) King, 86, of Baldwinsville went to Our Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at her home after a brief illness, surrounded by her adoring family. She was born in Rochester, NY, one of fifteen children, to the late Joseph and Christina Freitas on November 26, 1930. She moved to Syracuse as a young woman, where she married and raised five children.
Theresa, or “TJ” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and her beloved family. As a young woman, she served God as a MaryKnoll novice before realizing her true calling was marriage and family life. When not busy raising her family or helping her husband grow the family landscaping business, Theresa enjoyed treasured pastimes such as bridge, family ski outings, spending summers at the family camp on Otisco Lake, and dancing at the graduations and weddings of her children, grandchildren, and extended family as they came of age. She was also an avid golfer, competing in Syracuse Women’s District Golf and was a member of the Tuscarora Golf Club for many years.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was predeceased by her brothers; Joseph Freitas, Anthony Freitas, Manuel Freitas, John Freitas, and Dominic Freitas; her sisters; Mary Culligan, Sarah Freitas, Christine Cannito, Natalie Wright, Laura Freitas, Anne Stucki, Paula Grassel, and her grandson, Brian Wuerdeman.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, John E. King, Sr.; her loving children; Marcia (Paul) Cappuccilli, Michael J. King, John (Ana) E. King, Jr., Geraldine (Kenneth) Costello and Mary Elizabeth (Stephen) Wuerdeman; eleven grandchildren; Matthew Cappuccilli, Michael Cappuccilli, John G. King, Orlando King, Marta (Brian) Bartelt, Christopher (Kacie) Costello, Philip Costello, Sarah (Brach) Barham, Olivia Costello, Stephanie (John) Crowder, and Kevin Wuerdeman; eight great-grandchildren; Eve, Grant, Flynn, Sydney, Kimley, Jonah, Carter, and Madelyn; her sisters, Sally Finch and Lorraine Freitas; her sister-in-law, Jean King Myatt and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
