Thomas E. Cheek's Obituary
Thomas E. Cheek, 76, of Syracuse, New York went home to be with the Lord on Saturday April 21, 2018. Thomas was born on December 8, 1941 in Asheboro, North Carolina to Wilburt Cheek and Eula Mae Spinks (Cheek).
In the early Seventies, Thomas moved from his hometown to Syracuse and worked for Eaton's Crouse-Hinds. After ten years of service with Crouse-Hinds, Thomas ventured into a career of being known as one of the number of longest African American barbers in Syracuse, New York, with his original shop known as Tommy's Barber Service on Midland Ave. Over the years Thomas built a long standing customer service relationship with the Syracuse community, and could always be found at the barber shop.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents, Wilburt and Elua Mae; his brothers, Casey Cheek, James (Haywood) Cheek, and his grandson, Dylan Cheek.
Thomas is survived by his children, Joyce Ann Curtis, Thomas, Teresa, Stayce, Gregory, Jeffery, Thomas, Angel, Jalisa Simpson, Michelle and step daughter, Sandra Clarke (Thompson); brothers, Rayteford Cheek of Greensboro, North Carolina and Monroe Cheek of Silver City North Carolina; sisters, Ollie Day of Seagrove, North Carolina, Lynette Ruby Burnett of Asheboro, North Carolina and Ester Bendy of Greensboro, North Carolina; beloved nephew, Doug Cheek; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 10 a.m. to noon followed by a funeral service at noon at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Burial will follow in Onondaga Valley Cemetery. We ask all family and friends to join us in the remembrance of life for Thomas.
