Thomas F. DiOrio, Sr.'s Obituary
Thomas F. DiOrio, Sr., 96, of Syracuse, passed away at Crouse Hospital Saturday, May 28, 2016. Born in Syracuse, he was a WWII US Army Air Corps Veteran. He never met a man or woman he didn’t like, and all loved him back. The words gentle man, handsome and humble best described him. Tom made countless contributions to all walks of life. He was an avid dog lover, fisherman and golfer. His genius lied in politics, poker and the world markets and he took joy in debating those topics. During WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, 57th Bombing Wing. As a flight officer (Bombardier-Navigator) he flew 20 perilous bombing missions over Germany, knowing he had 1 in 4 chances of survival. After the war, he was employed by Blue Ribbon Dairy of Syracuse as a milkman, followed by employment with Aerofin Corporation of Syracuse as a Machinist / Inspector, then onto Carrier Corporation where he retired. Tom was 1 of 12 children, Family meant everything to him. In 1940 Tom married his beautiful and devoted wife Mary, and had 2 children. We will miss our beautiful and loving father.
Thomas was predeceased his wife, Mary A. (LaNeve) DiOrio and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gaetano DiOrio.
He is survived by his 2 loving children; Mary Ann Brigandi of Camillus, and Thomas F. (Rosemarie) DiOrio, Jr. of Camillus; his granddaughter, Danielle (Nicholas) Ranalli of Baldwinsville; 2 great-granddaughters, Alanna and Aubrey Ranalli; and his sister, Susan DiOrio of Syracuse.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Thomas’ life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME.
