Thomas J. Furze's Obituary
Thomas J. Furze, 85, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. He was born in Syracuse to the late Richard and Irene (Miner) Furze and attended Onondaga Valley Academy and later, CCBI (Central City Business Institute). Thomas was a carpenter, belonged to the Local 747, and worked for Edward Schalk & Son, Inc. for 37 years. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Thomas belonged to the American Veterans Post #92 and the American Legion. He enjoyed all sports but had a particular love for golfing and fishing. Thomas adored spending 44 years with his family at Brennan’s Beach as well as winters in Jensen Beach, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Rachel in 2014 and his siblings, Shirley Harris, Richard Furze, Carol Kenyon, and William Furze.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Christine (Todd) Foster and Theresa (John) Nicholson; his 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Jeffrey, Emilie, Marisa, and Nicole; his 4 great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Lillian, Theodore, and Emeline; his sister, Nancy Parody; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Syracuse VA Medical Center for their excellent care.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral service in celebration of Thomas’ life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with his wife in North Syracuse Cemetery at a later date.
