Thomas M. Hanley's Obituary
Thomas M. Hanley, 68, of Syracuse, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 4, while enjoying his favorite pastime, golf, at Pompey Country Club. A lifetime Syracuse resident, Tom graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1965 and Syracuse University in 1969. Tom also received his Masters of Business (MBA) from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. He would go on and serve in the Air National Guard after college.
Tom was the co-founder of Tops’N Bottoms, which became a well-known clothing retail chain throughout New York State. He also founded Hanley & Associates, a very successful insurance brokerage firm and whose clients he remained completely committed to.
Tom belonged to Pompey Country Club and loved to golf. He was also an instrument-rated private pilot.
Tom Hanley was known to be very generous to his family and friends and always carried himself with class and style. His smile and the love he had for his family and friends will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Denise Picciano; his beloved daughters, Lauren and Lindsay (Mark) Gauthier of Bentonville, Arkansas; his parents, Ray and Clara; his two sisters, Maureen and Kathy (Jim) Burns; his nephew Matthew Burns, several aunts, and many cousins; and his beloved dog, PIP, whom he treated with great affection.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Thomas’ life at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 4–7 pm on Monday, May 9, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Road, (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
