Thomas J. "Tom" Vona

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas J. “Tom” Vona share his passing on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He was our favorite husband, dad, Papa (grandpa) and friend. Tom, born in 1959, was the youngest of four children to Phyllis and Thomas Vona. He graduated from Liverpool High School and worked for over 20 years at Joseph A. Militi Construction Company and at Vallar’s Tile and Marble until his retirement. He was a skilled mason and stone fabricator. In May 1983, he married the love of his life, Christine (Pompo). They have been married for 42 years and had two children, Thomas and Kathleen. Tom loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family at their camp on Lake Bonaparte. He was an avid Bills fan; his grandchildren have become mini-fans. We remember him for always being generous with his time, advice and humor. He loved his family and friends deeply; they were everything to him. He was a man who would move mountains for those he cared about. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Phyllis, and his brother-in-law, Wayne Lamica. Tom is survived by his wife, Christine (Pompo) Vona; children, Thomas (Hannah) and Kathleen, two grandchildren, Renee and Kara; three siblings, Sandra Lamica, Nancy (Rick) Gilson and Carmen (Nancy) Vona and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the ICU staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their expert and companionate care. Along with Dr. Aljitawa and his dedicated team at Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for giving Tom the most amazing care. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 4 - 6:30 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
