Valarie Ann Torrence's Obituary
Valarie Ann Torrence, 59, formerly of Bronx, NY transitioned to be with the Lord on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Crouse Hospital with her devoted husband of 33 years, Ramon Torrence by her side. She is also survived by her mother, Shirley Pitts; daughter, Cherese (Craig); sons, George and Ramon Jr. and daughter Nicole; sisters, Debra Lopez and LaVergne Harden (Rickey); 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, along with a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws. Valarie is predeceased by her father, Sherman Harden.
Valarie attended Abundant Life Christian Center for over 24 years and was a faithful elder for many years. She was a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service for over 10 years. While employed there, Valarie attended OCC where she received her Associates Degree in Social Work, Le Moyne College where she received her Master of Science Education Degree and her Bachelor Degree. While working as a teacher for several years at Blodgett Elementary she attended Syracuse University, where she received her Master's Degree in Teaching and her Doctorate Degree in Special Education. She graduated with honors Summa Cum Laude. Finally she received her CAS Certificate in Administration from Oswego University, also graduating with honors Summa Cum Laude. Valarie's last position was Vice-Principal at Delaware Elementary. Because of her love and dedication for children, Valarie was able to reach and touch many of their lives.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, followed by a service in celebration of Valarie’s life at Abundant Life Christian Center, 7000 All Nations Blvd., East Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse.
