Victor Vito Russo's Obituary
Victor V. Russo, 85, of Mattydale, NY, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Paolo and Filomena (Buro) Russo.
Victor served in the New York National Guard 138th Attack Squadron 1953 and the US Army 1954 – 1955. He was a member of the American Legion Post 358 in Pulaski, NY and the Moose Lodge in Syracuse, NY. He was also a member of the Mattydale Fire Department serving 17 years as the department’s treasurer. Victor was a member of the 3rd Ward Men’s Club and was their treasurer for 35 years. He joined the GE Survivors Club in 1995 and served as their treasurer for 12 years.
Victor enjoyed his summers managing his trailer park on Sandy Pond and doing wood working projects in his spare time. In addition, he loved spending winters in Bradenton, Florida. Victor was formerly employed as a supervisor with General Electric, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. Victor was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be truly missed.
Besides his parents, Victor was also predeceased by two brothers, Vincent and Anthony Russo, and his sister, Victoria (Russo) Dalessandro.
Victor is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Darlene (Hoffman) Russo; four sons, Victor D. (Peggy) Russo of Liverpool, Daniel L. Russo of Mattydale, Ronald (Julie) Russo of Palermo, and Michael V. Russo of Liverpool; his daughter, Debbie (Anthony) Kumiega of Cazenovia; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joseph Russo, Christopher (Arline) Russo, Elizabeth Mallaro, and Paul (Kathleen) Russo; sister-in-law, Jane (Spina) Russo; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Victor’s life at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Minoa. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
