Vincenzo "Lo Scienziato" Greco's Obituary
Vincenzo "Lo Scienziato" Greco, 93, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Syracuse, NY. He was born on January 8, 1925 in Canicatti, Sicily to Gaetano Greco and Rosa Pace. On July 26, 1953 he married Isabella Surrusca in Canicatti, Sicily. In the late 1970's he immigrated to Syracuse, NY with his family.
Vincenzo enjoyed amateur radio, was passionate about history, a devout catholic, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was the founder of the first radio station "Centro Radio Canicatti" in his hometown. He worked at Magnavox as an Electronic Engineer and retired in 1990. Vincenzo and Isabella enjoyed traveling to Italy yearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Isabella Greco; his son, Gaetano "Tom" and wife Kathleen; daughter, Rosa Maria; son, Giuseppe "Joe" and wife Erin, and son Salvatore. He was dearly loved by his 12 grandchildren; Leanna, Vincent, Nichole, Isabella, William, Ashley, and Victoria Greco, also Donna, Elizabeth, Daniela, Vincenzo and Sabrina Gullotto. Vincenzo also has 7 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews around the world including the Merulla's of Syracuse.
A time of gathering to remember Vincenzo will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Vincenzo’s life will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. He will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
Vincenzo was respected and loved by all.
