Virginia A. (Melfi) Albanese's Obituary
Virginia A. (Melfi) Albanese 91, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Vito and Christine (D'Aloia) Melfi. She was a communicant of St Matthews Church.
Virginia worked at Nettleton Shoes, raised her family, then returned to work at her sons' restaurant, Tony's Family Restaurant, where she was an important part of the homemade desserts and Italian recipes.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael; her brothers, Joseph (Henrietta) Melfi and Anthony Melfi, and sister, Lucy (Nicholas) Vecchiarelli.
Virginia is survived by her children, Anthony (Bridget) Albanese, Christine (Craig) Collins, Joanne (Paul) Colosi, and Michael (Laurie) Albanese; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren who will miss her constant love and attention. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Melfi.
Virginia enjoyed watching the Yankees, crocheting afghans, visiting the Cape, but mostly spending time with her family. Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 9:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd (corner of Buckley) N. Syracuse and 10:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
