Virginia P. (Vavonese) McBride's Obituary
Virginia P. (Vavonese) McBride, 83, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at Iroquois Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Salvatore and Nunzia (Gugluizza) Vavonese.
Virginia devoted her life to being a stay-at-home mom and then entered the workforce, retiring from Key Bank. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was Past Vice President of the Italian American Heritage Association and the Mother’s Club at Our Lady of Pompei School. Virginia enjoyed baking and playing cards; she especially loved the Italian card game, “Scuba”, that became a family pastime that was passed down to her extended family. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John W. McBride; her grandson, Philip Fernandez; brothers, Joseph, Anthony, Frank, Angelo, and Donald; two sisters, Catherine and Anna.
Virginia is survived by two daughters, Philomena McBride and Nancy (Cedric) Wade; two sons, John (Linda) McBride and Joseph (Elaine) McBride; six grandchildren, Shoshanna, Maria (Jason), David (Whittney), Angela, Bailey and Kathleen; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 9 am – 10:45 am at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Virginia’s life at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
