Virginia (Cammuso) Stamey, 97, of Syracuse passed away peacefully under the wonderful care of the staff at Elderwood of Liverpool on Friday March 19, 2021. She was born in 1923 in Syracuse, the oldest of five children of Alphonso Read Obituary

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Stamey! I attended Franklin elementary School 1968 - 1969. Mrs. Stamey was next door to Mrs. Kraft, my homeroom teacher. She was a very nice person and a dedicated teacher, as were the rest of the 6th grade team, including: Mrs. Kraft, Mr. Collins, Mr. Beyer and Mr. Gentile.
She would say hello every day as we passed her room while walking to one of our classes. They were more than just teachers back then, the treated you like members of a family. I was glad that I was able to attend Franklin instead of Salina Elementary, even though I had to walk from North Alvord/Danforth Street area.
Because of these teachers, and my aunt and uncle who also also were teachers, I knew in sixth grade that I wanted to become a teacher! Who would have thought, that I would end up teaching in the Syracuse City School District at Lincoln Middle School for 33 years!

My sincere condolences go out to you to and the rest of your family also. I still remember your mom when we were kids and you lived on the street behind us and we will see and play quite a bit when we were younger. We lost contact along time ago but I so you remember your mom with that Great Smile. She was always so nice when we were kids and I really enjoyed seeing her almost daily. Rest in peace Mr. Stamey as you were one of the good ladies from my childhood.

I had the privilege of being a 6th grade student of Mrs. Stamey at Franklin school in the late 50's. She was a wonderful teacher who always encouraged me to continue to learn new things and to put into practice what I had learned. She was kind and I remember she always had a minute to stop and talk with me in the hallways of Franklin before or after school. She was never to busy and always had time to listen and offer words of encouragement and to give help with understanding a difficult lesson. She was a wonderful example of what a great teacher is. Thank you for sharing her with me and all her students.
