Vito Lovecchio, Sr.'s Obituary
Vito Lovecchio, Sr., 93, of Liverpool, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego. Vito was born in Syracuse on May 30, 1924 to Vito and Josephine (Scarfino) Lovecchio. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was stationed in Okinawa.
Vito retired from Prestolite after 43 years of dedicated service as a machinist. After retiring, he and his wife Mary moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida, where he fulfilled his dream and love of baseball by helping build and play on a new softball field. After his wife passed, Vito started his second career as a greeter at Walmart where he sang and danced with the patrons, and enjoyed entertaining children.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Lovecchio in 2002; his son, Albert Lovecchio; five siblings, Leonard, Cosmo, Frankie, Santa, and Rose, and his best friend, Frank S.
Vito is survived by his daughter, Josephine (Nick) Laneve; his son, Vito (Cheryl) Lovecchio, Jr., seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 8:15 am in THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Vito’s life at 9:30 am in Divine Mercy Church, Central Square. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.), North, Syracuse, NY.
