Vito S. Toia, Sr.'s Obituary
Vito S. Toia, Sr., 83, of Syracuse, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home March 11, 2019. He grew up on the Northside graduating from Assumption Academy in 1953. He retired from General Electric as a Buyer after 40 years of service.
Active in his church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Ushers Guild at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s.
Vito was a well-respected Umpire for the NYS Softball and Recreation Leagues. Proud of his Italian heritage, Vito enjoyed trips to Italy and summers in Wildwood, NJ, with family and friends. He also enjoyed coffee daily with his crew at Panera and cards with his buddies at the Pastime Athletic Club.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vito and Ida Toia; his sister, Mary LaCorte and brother, Phillip Toia.
Vito is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty Jane (Campitello); three children, Vito (Kelly) of East Syracuse, Michael (Robin) of Manlius, and Dina Gerardi (Robert) of Davidson, NC. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Staci Toia, Alyssa Toia, Mikkal Toia, Ava Toia, Robert Gerardi and Anthony Gerardi; two great-grandchildren, Kailana and Kira; his sister, Virginia Perrotti (Carmen), and sister-in-law, Frances Toia, along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass and celebration of life at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s Church, 301 Ash St., Syracuse, with entombment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
