William J. "Bill" Watt's Obituary
William J. “Bill” Watt, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away at home on Sunday, November 15, 2015 with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Brown City, MI, the son of the late William and Flora Watt. Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 23rd Infantry Regime and did 1 tour of Guam and 2 tours of Korea achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Bill was employed with Upstate Medical Center from 1967 to 1974. He then was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1974, retiring as President and CEO in 1993. Bill served on several Institutional Boards including St. Joseph’s Hospital, Auburn Memorial Hospital, Iroquois Nursing Home, Plaza Nursing Home, CNY Health Care Association and Syracuse Health Care Management Association. Prior to losing his eyesight to macular degeneration, Bill was an avid golfer. He enjoyed memberships at Beaver Meadows Country Club, Lakeshore Yacht and Country Club and Onondaga Golf and Country Club.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by sisters, Anna Winn and Flora Watt and brothers, Stewart and Gordon Watt, all of Michigan.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Theresa A. “Terry” (Fanizzi) Watt of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Ellen Watt of Myrtle Beach, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am – 11:30 am on Thursday, November 19, 2015, followed by a funeral service with Military Honors in celebration of William’s life at noon at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital or Aurora of CNY.
