Yolanda (Ponzio) Malara's Obituary
Yolanda (Ponzio) Malara, 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Thursday at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Syracuse, to the late Salvatore and Enna Ponzio, Yolanda owned and operated Grant Florist for nearly 40 years. She was an active member of First Christian Assembly Church and volunteered in her community as a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Yolanda is predeceased by her husband Alberto “Al” Malara; brother, Victor Ponzio; and sister, Adele Ponzio.
She is survived by her 3 loving children, Ann (Robert) Malara-Zaccaria, A. David (Nancy) Malara and Dr. Richard C. (Michelle) Malara; 9 grandchildren Chelsea Castor, Rachel Zaccaria, Rob Zaccaria, Rebecca Zaccaria, Emily Malara, Nathaniel Malara, Lauren Malara-Bowers, Brooke Malara and Jordan Malara; 4 great grandchildren Ethan, Samuel, Adelina “Ella”, and Esther “Essie Lu”; sister-in-law, Virginia Malara; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Yolanda’s life at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A private burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, DeWitt.
