Angelo T. Scarsi's Obituary
Angelo T. Scarsi, 95, of Syracuse, passed away Tuesday at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse, he remained a lifelong resident of the North Side. Angelo was a printer by trade; he began at an early age in his father’s print shop. He continued at Onondaga Printing, Kaufman DeDell, and eventually retired from Trident Printing. He also served as the secretary for his local printing union for many years. Besides his printing skills, Angelo was a self-taught electrician, plumber, painter and gardener.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Angelo volunteered as a member of the Civil Defense. Never able to sit still, he was also instrumental in beginning the Golden Ages group at Assumption Church. There he served as a member of the Holy Name Society and ushered every Sunday at Mass.
Angelo’s most treasured moments were when he was surrounded by his family. He was the life of any party, and he could always be found on the dance floor at family events. Affectionately known by all as “Papo,” Angelo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Carmella (Lupo) Scarsi; his granddaughter, Susan Scarsi; his parents, John Scarsi and Lillian and step-father, James LoPresti; brothers, Dominick, Victor and Joseph; and sisters, Mary Muolo, Yolanda Massenzio and Lillian Paikin.
Angelo is survived by his four children, John (Patricia) Scarsi of California, Patricia (William) Halpin of Baldwinsville, Carleen (Paul) Smith of Liverpool and Angela (Tom) Bersani of Liverpool; grandchildren, John (Lisa) Scarsi, Michael Scarsi, Mark (Laura) Scarsi, Christopher (Amy) Scarsi, William (Hollie) Halpin, Shawn (Dana) Halpin, Patrick (Pamela) Halpin, Kathleen (James) Harrington, Anthony Smith, Jonathan Smith, Michelle (William) Santiago, Courtney (Smith) and Ryan Sprague, Tom (Ann) Bersani and Michael Bersani; great-grandchildren, Angelo and Sophia Scarsi, Nicholas Scarsi, Mark, Matthew, Andrew and John Patrick Scarsi, Christopher, Tessa and Zachary Scarsi, Alexander, Amelia and Julia Halpin, Rachel and Brittany Halpin, Patrick, Megan, Joseph and Jenna Halpin, Kellie and Eric Harrington, Anthony and Joseph Smith, Liam Sprague and Corina Bersani along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Assumption Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Contributions may be made to Assumption Church Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, 812 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
Angelo’s family would like to express their gratitude to all of Angelo’s compassionate caregivers-Deb, Pam, Mary, LeAndra, Debbie, Laura and especially Gloria; also a special thanks to Dr. Victor Croglio for his kindness and compassion to our father and our mother.
