Dear John and Family:
I could never figure out why I got your Mother for four years of English at Eastwood High School. I always thought maybe she requested me.... but never sure about that. I loved her all four years. She taught me so much. She encouraged me to write and I figured she was very proud that I was accepted at Syracuse University Newhouse School. She was like a second Mother to me all those years. John, you were in my Homeroom all four years, but there was nothing like your Mother. She was a terrific English teacher. I could never forget her diagramming sentences. I never thought that was worthwhile. But she encouraged all of us in her senior excelled English class to know how to do that. So we learned how to do diagramming.. I am sure they don't teach that now. She was a classy lady and one that I will NEVER forget. You were so lucky to have her all those years. I only wished I had a chance to say Ciao to her, but it didn't happen. Thanks Mrs. Vivenzio for the impact you had on my life. I will always remember you.... Patti Vacco Quagrello
I'm a member of the Onondaga Retired Teacher Association. We "younger" members can volunteer to have an older member assigned to us so that we can send him/her cards on birthdays and holidays. I was lucky enough to be assigned Anna when I first joined the organization a few years ago.
Most older members don't write back, but Anna sent me a lovely note thanking me after the first card I sent her. I continued to send her cards and eventually called her. We had a lovely talk. At the time she was in her 90's and told me she still drove. A highlight of my relationship with Anna was in the spring of 2013. I was in Fort Lauderdale and contacted Anna, and she invited me to her home. She (and her niece who lived nearby) fixed me a lovely lunch, and we sat at her beautifully set table and talked. What a beautiful, classy, gracious, interesting woman.
I will miss keeping in touch with her. I am very sorry for your loss.

Condolences to the Vivenzio family. She was my English teacher at Eastwood High School. Though I didn't realize it at the time, she must have had an influence on me, since I became a published writer!! Mrs. Vivenzio was a classy and intelligent lady and an excellent teacher.
