Anthony Alphonse Matrone's Obituary
Anthony Alphonse Matrone, 82, passed away on August 9, 2024. Anthony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Anthony was born in Syracuse and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. Anthony received an honorable discharge after four years with a Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge and a Pistol Sharpshooter Badge. He opened two successful leather coat stores in Syracuse and had an Italian restaurant in the French quarter in New Orleans. He returned to college at Syracuse University at age 48 and earned a master’s degree in social work.
Anthony was in recovery for 34 years and worked as a CASAC For Crouse Hospital. He retired from the NY State Unified Drug Treatment Court where he helped hundreds of people overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol and befriended many which became lifelong friends.
Anthony loved his family and fur baby Frankie unconditionally, fine dining, golfing, reading, cruises and NYC Broadway shows. He will be missed by so many.
Anthony is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Alphonse Matrone and brothers, John and Robert Matrone.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Stephanie Cali-Matrone; son, Michael Matrone and daughter, Marnie Matrone Scherer; grandchildren, Logan and Madelon Scherer; sons-in-law, Brian Scherer and Guido Ortenzio and sister, Fran Matrone Rice along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Anthony’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt, NY.
