Anthony F. Vecchio's Obituary
Anthony F. Vecchio, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford, NY on Saturday, March 5, 2016. He has now joined his parents, Rosa and Giuseppe, his brothers, Alex and Sam, and his sister-in-law, Kathryn.
Anthony was born on February 4, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He moved to Syracuse when he was 3 years old. In his youth, he was on the gymnastics team at the Boys Club and the baseball team at North High. He was a graduate of North High School and Powelson Business Institute.
As a sergeant in the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific including Hawaii, Okinawa and Korea.
Anthony had a 30-year career as the business manager at the Syracuse Psychiatric Hospital.
He enjoyed bowling, golf, and especially time with his family. He was a member of the Pastimes Club and the Italian American Athletic Club.
Anthony is survived by his sister-in-law, Frances Vecchio; nieces, Rosemary (Dr. Ross) Laguzza, Susan Vecchio, JoAnn (Douglas) Detor, and Mary (Wayne) Stone; great-niece, Kristen (Christopher) Tizzano; great-nephews, Jeffrey (Dorothy) Laguzza, Michael (Caitlyn) Arton, Christopher Arton, and Joseph Arton; great-great-nieces, Kathryn and Mae Rose; great-great-nephews, Wyatt and Benjamin; and several cousins.

The family would like to thank the caring staffs of the Hearth at James in Syracuse and the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford for their compassion, patience and excellent care of Uncle Tony.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Anthony’s life at 9:00 am in St. Daniel’s Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
