August F. Russo, Jr.'s Obituary
August F. Russo, Jr., 83, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late August and Mary Russo, and graduated from North High School. Augie had a great devotion to his faith and family. He built a successful business as owner and operator of Russo’s Auto Sales for over 40 years with the help of his wife and sons. Augie was a great lover of horse racing and was privileged to have owned several horses, especially a horse named “Scott The Great” who won the Grade I Poker at Belmont. Although the greatest joy of his life was his grandchildren. Augie had a great sense of humor and was the first to laugh at his own jokes. Augie did more than survive a massive stroke, with his wife by his side he conquered and exceeded all doctors’ expectations.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Russo, and two sisters, Margie D’Avirro and Shirley Labruzzo.
Augie is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Marie (Desimone) Russo; four sons, Augie (Helen) Russo, Rick Russo, Ronald (Teresa) Russo, and Stephen Russo; his daughter, Lauren Duby, and son-in-law, John Duby who was more like a son to Augie; five grandchildren, Dr. Ronald, John Michael, Charlie, Danielle and Gianelle; one sister, Marion Mirizio; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Augie’s life at 10 am in St. Daniel’s Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 – 7 pm on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
