Mike, Nikki, Mike and the Varre/Loperfido family-
On behalf of myself, having learned just now making my annual birthday call to Mike (11/18), I am saddened to learn of the recent passing of your beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and dear relative and friend to so many, BARBARA (LOPERFIDO) VARRE. I had the honor to meet Barbara when I was assigned to the New York Air National Guard 174th FW/MDG (ACC) Syracuse, NY, dating back to 2002 in which her husband Mike (MSgt Varre) was my mentor and NCOIC in Medical Materiel. A true consummate family lady and very welcoming to my presence into their home several times, she was an accomplished educator and administrator and demonstrated Christian values and unconditional service to others. May her good deeds and kindness to her family, friends, parish community and her native city of Syracuse, NY, be rewarded into life everlasting. If its any consolation to Mike and her family in the days and times ahead, our loved ones memory never fades as long as we hold them in our hearts each day. Respectfully submitted-

Barb & her sister Fran went to SJBA with me. Barb always liked to have fun. I graduated in ‘64 & we were in different activities and always had fun. Barbs cousin & I were close Pat Aiello. Any family get together because of Patty, I went to.

As someone born and raised on the ‘nort-side’ and at SJBA I knew the Loperfido family very well. In fact, I followed first Patrick, then Barbara as the church organist. Barbara was quite kind and shared the “good stuff” about being a church organist in the 60’s and 70’s in Syracuse. That was, of course, when we had 5 priests plus The Bishop involved; and when we had 6 masses per weekend. Some fun memories for Mike and the kids:
1. Always tell the priest if you were hungover. That way you could lay down in the pew out of sight and if they didn’t see you get up after the sermon – they could call you (yes there is a phone up there)
2. God will not take offense if you do your homework after Mass 2. No one sermon can be great on the third, fourth, fifth or sixth go-around.
3. Though not allowed at the time, take water/coffee – Sunday mornings are long.
4. Learn how to manage volunteers (I still do this for my job). We had a very well-endowed, soprano who could dominate any choir. Barbara would go “Alice” you sing that melody so well and strongly but we need to hear the rest of the harmony, too.
6. If you get stuck working in the rectory on Sunday morning, be sure you eat first or set aside your plate - Viola's eggs are worse when cold.
My sincere condolences to the Varre/Loperfido families. I was a year behind Barb at SJBA. She was always so pleasant and kind to me . ❤️

Dear Family,
So Sorry for your loss, Barb will always be remembered for her kind & friendly personality. She always stopped to say hello at Customer Service & chat with me when arriving at the Mall before going to work at Lindt Chocolate as a greeter. She really enjoyed that part-time job after she retired. She always joked about not wanting to work the register or get involved with the technical aspects of the job, just greet the people & get them to buy candy. I'm glad I got to visit her during the summer.
