Barbara Anne (Loperfido) Varre's Obituary
Barbara Anne (Loperfido) Varre, 74, of Syracuse, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on September 27, 2021. Barbara was born in Syracuse to the late August “Gus” and Julia M. (Aiello) Loperfido. Barbara graduated in 1965 from St. John The Baptist Academy. She received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education & Visually Handicapped Education from Dominican College of Blauvelt in 1969. Barbara was a dedicated Special Education teacher and retired from the Syracuse City School District, where she worked from 1969-2002.
Barbara enjoyed cooking, baking, and sharing her Italian recipes. She loved a good party to socialize with her family and friends and rocking in her chair on her deck at her camp in Lowville, NY. Barbara was active at her church, St. John the Baptist, helping with their annual food festival and visiting shut ins to give them communion. She was also a communicant at St. Hedwig Church in Lowville, NY.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Michael John and brother, Patrick Loperfido.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Michael C. Varre; daughter, Nikki Marie Varre of Syracuse, and son, Michael (Stacy) Varre of Liverpool; grandchildren, Michael “Mikey” Varre and Lilly Varre of Liverpool; sister, Frances (Jon) Green of Naperville, IL; many cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Per the family’s request, all attendees are asked to wear a facial covering. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. John The Baptist Church, 406 Court St. Syracuse. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
