Bruce A. Randall's Obituary
Bruce A. Randall, 69, of North Syracuse, passed away at Upstate Hospital on Monday, June 17, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Bruce was born in Utica, NY to Edward and Hilda (Hammond) Randall.
Bruce graduated from New York Mills High School in 1972 and SUNY Cortland in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Bruce’s early life centered around athletics: playing football and baseball in high school, earning local accolades as a versatile leviathan on the gridiron and dominating hitter and catcher. At SUNY Cortland, he was an All-Star first baseman that led the team in hits and to a division championship in 1976.
Bruce began his career with Utica Mutual Insurance. After moving to Syracuse Bruce served as Director of Network Services for Mutual of New York, Eastern Regional Data Center Manager for Navisite Inc., and Worldwide Director of Customer Support for Polaris Library Systems.
Bruce dutifully traveled the US and Canada in support of his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic and scholastic endeavors; and traveled the world with his loving wife in pursuit of leisure and learning.
Bruce will be warmly remembered for his affable personality, quick wit, calming presence, and unwavering positivity; along with quietly advancing his community through acts of service and volunteerism with an adamant belief that small acts can leave large impacts.
Bruce umpired softball and little league before, during and after his children’s playing careers; coached Liverpool Girls Softball and Salt-City Little League teams, coaching his son’s baseball teams to multiple NYS sect 8 Class A championships as well as the league’s first and only 20-0 undefeated season; held numerous officer and board positions for the Midstate Youth Hockey Association and Syracuse Stars; in addition to countless hours of field maintenance, score clock running, or anything else that was needed to help keep the programs running. Bruce was a devoted (bordering on obsessive) platelet, plasma, and blood donor, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and, posthumously, an organ and tissue donor.
Along with his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Randall. Bruce is survived by his wife Renee (Cappallo) Randall; children, Jenna (Aaron) Smith and Josh Randall; grandchildren Harper and Graham Smith; siblings Phylis (Steve) Cosilmon and John (Patti) Randall; his sister-in-law Luba Randall; nieces, nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in Epiphany Parish (formerly St. Joseph the Worker Church), Liverpool, NY. Family and friends may call on Sunday June 23, 2024, from 1:00 - 4:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bruce’s name may be made to either: the American Red Cross, https://www.redcross.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/about-st-jude.html
