It is with great sadness that my wife and I learned of Clare's passing. We first met when I was enrolled in RCIA classes at St. Michael's. We became friends from that point forward. We never tired of listening to Clare's stories of traveling the globe and of her husband John, usually told while dining at one of CNY's fine restaurants. In a reflection of her generous spirit she would always insist on paying for dinner. I'll never forget her reaction the first time I was able to get the dinner check before her and paid the bill. I still smile whenever I think of that day! From that day forward it became a game as to which one of us would be able to outwit the other when it came to picking up the check. Sometimes we would win, and sometimes Clare would. She would always feign being cross with me, but we both came to enjoy the game. She would come up to our summer rental cottage on Lake Ontario and it would always be an enjoyable day, especially when we went into Sackets Harbor to Tin Pan Galley for lunch. Clare introduced us to Grand Mariner as an after dinner drink, and to this day I always keep a bottle in my cabinet. Clare was always gracious, kind, generous and younger than her years. She was an angel to many people, organizations and institutions, and was a true example of a Christian life well lived. May her family find peace and comfort in their memories of her, and may God welcome Clare into the Kingdom of Heaven and grant her life everlasting. We miss you and love you Clare! Sincerely, Michael & Kate Wheeler
