Clare (Banick) DeAugustine's Obituary
Clare (Banick) DeAugustine, 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2017. Clare was born in Dunmore, PA, the daughter of John and Anna (Hurney) Banick. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Keystone College in LaPlume, PA.
Syracuse became her permanent home in 1941 after being hired by Merchants Bank, (now M&T Bank) while she was visiting family. A few years later she was promoted to personal secretary to Thomas W. Higgins, President and CEO of the bank - a position she held until her retirement in 1981.
Clare had a love of travel, spending time with her family and friends and cheering on the Syracuse Orange. A long-time parishioner of The Church of St. Michael and St. Peter, Clare was involved in many aspects of the activities of the Church, especially in support of the Haiti Program. She was very generous with her time and contributions to various organizations and individuals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John DeAugustine and her sister, Marion Mosier. Clare is survived by her brothers, Dr. John Banick, Edward (Louise) Banick and Eugene (Nancy) Banick; her sister, Kathryn Braig; brother-in-law, Joseph Mosier, and 11 nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 9 – 10 am on Friday, December 29, 2017 at The Church of St. Michael and St. Peter, 4782 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Clare’s life at 10 am. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in DeWitt next to her beloved husband.
