Dominick V. Tropea's Obituary
Dominick V. Tropea, 88, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully Saturday at James Square. A life resident of the Syracuse area, he served in the United States Army during World War II. Dom attended Syracuse University and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking and the School of Savings Banking at Brown University. He was employed by Syracuse Savings Bank from January 1946 thru March 1987. He was promoted through all levels of operations to Vice President on January 1, 1975, to Sr. Vice President on September 1, 1982 and Group Vice President on June 15, 1983. Dom served on the Operations Committee for Savings Banks Association of New York State, Senior Counsel for the State Association Savings Bank Life Insurance Fund, member of Sales Development Committee S.B.L.I. Fund, American Institute of Banking, American Bankers Association, and Land Title Association of New York State. Dom also taught "Fundamentals of Savings Banking" for many years. He was the former President of the Syracuse Optimist Club, member of the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and the Old Boy's Association of the Syracuse Boys Club. Dom was a member of Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club since 1972 where he enjoyed golfing, dancing and playing cards.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Nancy (Madonna) Tropea; 3 children, Daniel (Toni Ann) Tropea of East Syracuse, Maria (Dominic) Palumbo of Liverpool and Beth (Jim) Furbush, of Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Nancy (Don) DellaVella, D.J. (Krista) Tropea, Christy (Brian) Normanly, Nicole (Michael) Benvenuto, Maria (Kurt) Schulze, Ashley (Ryan) Tucker and Joseph (Heather) Palumbo; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am at Christ the King Church in Liverpool, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter at 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, N.Y. 13204-1305.
