As I get older, I sometimes forget what it’s like to know someone for so long that I can’t recall exactly when I met them or what I said when I did.
I can only say for sure, that the day I first met Dorothy, she was kind to me.
And as I get older, I can’t recall how to get to know someone as a child does, without thinking of how I appear or wondering if what I say is right.
But this is how I got to know Dorothy, because she always accepted me and I knew that.
When you’re young, you don’t know that everyone around you helps shape who you will be. And when someone is as careful as Dorothy, it happens when you're having fun.
But her love, care and patience and all the wonderful times we had at 221 Wembridge Drive helped make me who I am now. What a gift. A gift Dorothy knew I could never repay, but she freely gave to me anyway.
Thank you, Ma.
