Edmund "Eddy" Schilling's Obituary
Edmund "Eddy" Schilling, 79, of Syracuse, passed away Monday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Singen, Germany and came to the United States in 1953 at the age of 19. Edmund served with the US Army from 1956 to 1958, where he played soccer and was captain of the Army's soccer team. He was a life member of the American German Society, the founder of Mattydale Body Shop in 1962 and was involved in stockcar racing in the 60's. He was also a member and one of the founders of Syracuse Auto Body Association. Eddy was the founder of Schilling Forge in 1975 where he retired after many years in 2004. He was a Vice Chairman of the Onondaga County Conservative Party and a member of the Onondaga County Planning Board for 8 years. Eddy was on the Board of Directors of the Syracuse Blazers Hockey Team. He enjoyed golf, skiing, camping and fishing throughout his life. Since 1982 , Eddy and Dorothy enjoyed vacationing with friends every year in Aruba. Eddy especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy L. (Meier) Schilling; his two daughters, Suzanne (Ralph) Rotunno of Liverpool and Lisa (John) Caldwell of Liverpool; five grandchildren, Christina (Shane) Cutlip, Nicole Rotunno, Ryan Caldwell, Nathan Caldwell and Lauren Caldwell, all of Liverpool; a brother, Johannes (Beverly) Schilling of North Syracuse; a sister, Irmgard (Dieter) Schriever of New Hartford, NY; an aunt, Catherine Schilling of Camillus along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 8:30 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:30 am in Assumption Church, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
