Bitter sweet....I am so sorry for your loss. I am happy Liz is with her mother, father, brothers and sisters. What a loving and giving family Liz created. I have very warm memories from the time I spent with her. Liz was in her middle 90’s when I met her bringing a meal to Millie. Liz in her 90’s was so full of life. She absolutely loved life, her family and people around her. I still cherish my time spent with her. She told me the story of her life from the beginning when she was born on the north side in the dining room of her parents house, to the daily routine of her large family, once a week they would go to a building down near Rte 81 to take a shower, how a neighbor gave them a washing machine, how her dad did the food shopping, the girls cleaned the house, the boys played outside, her mom spent most of her time in the kitchen cooking and when she made meatballs the boys would sneak in and take them as she was cooking. Liz gave me the exact meatball recipe which I still use. Everyone loves my 100 year old meatball recipe. She had vivid memories of taking all her little sisters and brothers to Schiller park to swim. Liz was such a hard worker at a young age. She went at 15 years old everyday to try to get a job at the pocket book factory until one day the cleaning man told the boss to hire her and her friend because they come everyday faithfully to try to get a job. She used her older sisters ID as if she were 16. Every week she gave her father her paycheck. He gave her $2 for herself. She told me the heartaches which still made her cry of her bother being killed in the truck accident at a young age, about her sister in law who was very sick standing at the top of the stairs right above Delauros Bakery excited because Liz was coming to brush her hair which she did often. Shortly after her sister in law died Liz was married. Everyone probably knows Liz loved her clothes and was a stunning woman when she went out. We spent time going through the front closet full of beautiful dresses one by one and Liz told stories of where she wore them. We laughed over and over at the fact she had two birthdays, one before she retired and one after she retired. I better end here since I keep remembering more stories of Liz’s life.
