Eloise "Ellie" Whedon's Obituary
Eloise "Ellie" Whedon, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Loretto. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of the late Charles and Addie (Briggs) Fortino. Ellie was employed with New York Telephone/Verizon for almost 30 years. She was a communicant of St. James Church and a member of the Business Woman's Association on the Southside of Syracuse. Ellie enjoyed her trips to the casino.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Whedon in 1997; her three brothers, Leo and Victor Fortino in 1987 and Frederick Fortino in 2009. Ellie is survived by her sister, Gloria (Michael) Ball of Clay; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Fortino of Cicero and Charles (Edith) Fortino of Syracuse along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 7:45 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in St. James Church, where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
Ellie's family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff at Sedgwick Heights and Loretto for their support and care during the past year. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
