Frank G. Barilla's Obituary
Frank G. Barilla, 81, of Lyncourt, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Fred and Catherine Barilla. In April, 2000, he retired from New Process Gear as a skilled tradesman after many years of service.
Frank’s life was defined by his desire to help and serve others. To that end, he joined organizations that enabled him to satisfy that desire. He was a retired member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, having served for over 37 years. Frank was instrumental in bringing the traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall to the Syracuse area. Throughout the years, Frank was continually involved in various activities that benefited veterans.
He was past Fire Chief and Commissioner of the Lyncourt Fire Department. He also served with the EAVES volunteer ambulance service. During his working years at New Process Gear, he was a member of the fire team.
Family members and friends could always count on Frank to help with a home project or repair. He was truly a good man and will be sorely missed.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Rosalie Barilla in 2016; his brother, Dominick Barilla, and his sister, Carmella Roth.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Laura Asper; his son, Angelo (Andy) Barilla; his granddaughter, Lisa Asper; his brothers, Santo, Andrew (Pat), Peter (Sandy), and Patsy “Pat” (Rosemarie) Barilla; his sister, Rena (George) Gianquitti; his brother-in-law, Joe Roth, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Frank’s life at 12:10 PM in St. Daniel’s Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
