Gaston A. Yockell, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Van Duyn Nursing Home. He was born in Rimouski, Quebec to the late Jean and Imelda (Proulx) Yockell and moved to Montreal at the age of 18. G Read Obituary
Mon très cher Gaston,
Tu as été étant petit pour moi une idole, quelle fierté j’avais de te voir évoluer sur la glace, quelle fierté j’avais que d’être le petit frère du numéro quatre du St-Robert de Rimouski.
Tu as eu pour moi une très grande générosité, il y avait toujours une place avec toi pour ton petit frère, peu importe les circonstances, je ne t’en remercierai jamais assez.
Mon très cher frère, les mots que j’emploierais pour te définir sont simples mais ils ont pour moi une grande signification, tu as été et tu seras toujours pour moi mon grand frère.
Je te garde jusqu’à la fin de ma vie et après encore une grande place dans mon cœur.

You have been for me, when I was young, an idol, how proud I was to see you on the ice, how proud I was to be the little brother of the number four of the St-Robert of Rimouski.
You had a great generosity for me, there was always a place with you for your little brother, no matter what the circumstances , I can never thank you enough.
My dear brother, the words I would use to define you are simple but they have great meaning for me, you have been and always will be for me my older brother.
I keep you for the rest of my life and after also a great place in my heart.

Gaston was a big part of starting the program of great hockey for many of the players that followed. Many of the players playing now would not have made it unless Gaston started coaching in Syracuse. He appointed me as a travel coach over 35 years ago and many years later things changed for the better. Gaston was the first to understand everything.
Although his own children didn't directly benefit the players that followed did.

So sorry for your loss. I remember how involved he was in youth hockey and helped the kids. My boys were a part of the youth program.
