Gaston A. Yockell's Obituary
Gaston A. Yockell, 82, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Van Duyn Nursing Home. He was born in Rimouski, Quebec to the late Jean and Imelda (Proulx) Yockell and moved to Montreal at the age of 18. Gaston came to Syracuse in the late 60’s to play semi-professional hockey for the Syracuse Stars. He coached Mid-State youth hockey for many years. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #267 Syracuse for 50+ years and also UA Local #73 Oswego. He loved to play hockey, golf, and take trips to the casino. He enjoyed watching all sports on television, especially the Montreal Canadians and Syracuse University.
Gaston is survived by his children, Richard, Jon Guy, and Kathleen “Michelle” (Timothy) McDonald; four grandchildren, Shane and Alexandra Yockell and Claire and Kyle McDonald; as well as a brother, Jean-Marc (Linda).
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 11 am – 12:30 pm immediately followed by a funeral service at 12:30 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse.
