My brother Jerry from His brother Rah
My fondest memories are of growing up with Jerry in the 50’s, 60’s and 70's.
He attended St. Vincent De Paul both grammar and high school. Jerry played little league baseball at Lincoln Park, and also played a lot of basketball on the outside court at St. Vincent’s in the 50’s and 60's.
While at Saint Vincent's, Jerry played both baseball and basketball, and in 1956 they won the parochial league basketball championship.
Jerry enrolled at Le Moyne College and made the Dolphins varsity basketball team in 1959. The Le Moyne Hall of Fame Class of 2011 consisted of the 1959-60 Men's Basketball Team and marked the first time a team was honored. In earning a berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament, the 1959-60 men’s basketball team compiled an overall record of 14-5 and captured the Middle Eastern College Athletic Association (MECAA) championship by defeating Saint Peter's, Iona and Long Island.
After graduating Jerry worked in the insurance industry for over 50 years as a broker.
In his off time, Jerry became an official referee with IIABO Local Board 38 and over the years officiated many high school and college games. Jerry had an idea to start a program for boys to teach them all the rules and fundamentals of basketball. The program was named Syracuse Youth Basketball and it was run at Lincoln Junior High and Onondaga Community College. Thanks to Jerry for all of the effort he put in for 20 years.
I am going to miss him and hope that we meet again in heaven.
Love your brother, Robert
Sorry I can't be there because I am on Kidney Dialysis in Florida.
