Giuseppe "Joe" Ruffolo's Obituary
Giuseppe “Joe” Ruffolo, 93 of Syracuse passed away at home on December 11, 2024 with his family by his side. A native of Italy, Giuseppe was born in Mendicino in the province of Cosenza in Calabria on June 28, 1931, to Francesco and Angelina Ruffolo. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 and resided in Syracuse, NY. In 1961 he married Assunta DeStefano and shared over 63 years of married life together. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei – St. Peter Church.
Giuseppe was a 1992 retiree of the Onondaga County Water Authority with 30 years of dedicated service as a backhoe operator.
Giuseppe enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Turning Stone Casino and his daily visit to Café Espresso. He especially enjoyed the annual family vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey. His family was always at the center of all his enjoyment.
Along with his parents, Giuseppe was predeceased by his sister Lena Muoio and brother Gigino Ruffolo of Italy.
Giuseppe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Assunta (DeStefano) Ruffolo, his two daughters, Angelina Porrino (Tino) of Liverpool and Barbara Kraus (Martin) of Syracuse; his six grandchildren, Suzanne Kraus of Seattle, Washington, Thomas Kraus (Caitlin) of Manlius, Daniel Kraus (Michael Clemente) of Camillus, Lauren Lewis (Cory) of Liverpool, Alyssa Parsley (Robert) of Liverpool, and Emile Kraus of Syracuse; four great grandchildren, Logan and Rowan Kraus of Manlius and Landyn and Rylee Lewis of Liverpool; a brother, Vincenzo Ruffolo (Maria) of Italy as well as his sisters – in – law and several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Pompei – St. Peter Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 P.M. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In keeping with Giuseppe’s wishes, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
