Giuseppe "Joseph" Scarcella's Obituary
Giuseppe “Joseph” Scarcella, 78, of Mattydale, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. He was born in Palmi, Reggio Calabria, Italy to the late Rocco and Carmella (Ferraro) Scarcella and immigrated to the United States when he was 8 years old. Joe graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1962 and later attended Powelson Business School. His education led him to a career with General Electric and Martin Marietta; he worked in production control for over 30 years. He was also a courier for Sugarman Law Firm and an umpire for a recreational softball league.
When Joe wasn’t at one of his many jobs, he volunteered at St. Margaret’s Church and as a proud veteran of the Army National Guard, he felt it was important to give back to others by donating his time to the Clear Path for Veterans. He coached little league for his children and was an active member of the IAAC (Italian Americans Athletic Club). Joe was an avid NY Yankees and SU sports fan and loved to read and play cards. Most of all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his siblings, Antoinette Pugliese, Frank, Vincent and Carmen Scarcella.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie (Darmento) Scarcella; his children, Joseph (Sonia) Scarcella, Michael Scarcella, and Catherine Scarcella Abbott; his grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Scarcella and Avery Abbott; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
