John L. "Jack" Hines' Obituary
John (Jack) Lloyd Hines, long time Syracuse resident, passed away on April 1st, 2019 at his home surrounded by family after a brief illness with cancer. He was born in Syracuse, NY, on November 18, 1941, son of the late John Ferdinand and Patricia Hines. He is also predeceased by his brother, Kenneth, and half-sister, Patricia Binks. Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maryanne (Griffin) Hines; 7 children: Kenneth Hines, Kevin Hines, Keith (Charissa) Hines, Karl (Jennifer) Hines, Kathleen (David) Carson, Karen (Mark) Hance, and Kristin (William) McGarrity; 15 grandchildren: Andrew, Holly, Maddie, Griffin, Greyson, Garrett, Mattea, Jediah, Rachel, Mabel, Michael, Christopher, Claire, Lincoln, Julia and 2 great-grandchildren: Lucy Garcia and Jack Hines – the latter named in honor of his great-grandfather.
Jack was an Air Force veteran, worked 30 years at United Refrigeration Services, was Chief Union Steward of Teamsters Local 317, member of Pastime Athletic Club, longtime coach at Lincoln Little League and Eastwood Bears, and was a lifetime parishioner and Head Usher at St. Vincent de Paul Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and he cherished time spent with his family. Jack was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
