John R. "STICK" Simms, Sr.'s Obituary
John R. “STICK” Simms, Sr., 80, of Brewerton, NY passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday at his home. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late John H. and Ann Simms. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. John’s love of his country and pride in the U.S. Navy was so evident in the fact that he enthusiastically attended yearly Navy reunion trips all across the United States and many foreign countries.
John was a dedicated firefighter with the City of Syracuse Fire Department for 25 years before retiring on April 7, 1993. He enjoyed golf and fishing, but most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Simms on June 20, 2002, and also by his brother James and sister Barbara.
John is survived by two sons, Michael D. (Nancy) Simms of Brewerton and John R. (Patti) Simms, Jr. of Camillus; three grandchildren who lovingly called him “POP”, Jennifer (Alex) Arrigo, Melissa Simms, and John R. Simms III, his great- grandson Grant, along with many nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Family and Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
There will be a private funeral service and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Syracuse Firefighters Park, c/o of Local 280, 211 Wilkinson St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
