Dear Arlene, Jeanette, and members of the Luckette family,
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I learned of Joe’s passing;
And I share in your sorrow and joy in the belief that the good he spread has earned him his heavenly reward.
Joe and I go back many years. Growing up we shared the same birthdate, neighborhood, schooling and friends. He was one of my earliest and very best friends. We wore out our sneakers playing baseball and touch football on the old Townsend School playground, we walked to school together just about everyday since we met at Franklin School kindergarten class; a friendship that lasted for more than 77 years, celebrated annually with a birthday reminder phone call .
Everybody liked Joe, he was a good sharp kid, honest, loyal, respectful and fun to be with; all characteristics he carried into his adult life; expanded to include others, like, enterprising, loyal employee, good husband and father.
He met his dream girl and she knocked his socks off. His friends would rib him about this girl nicknamed Tootsie. They married and as others in our group followed, times began to change for all of us.
Although we ventured away from the old neighborhood, those fond memories of the best of times were rekindled at every school reunion, Friday morning breakfasts, calls for kitchen planning advice and chance meetings.
Joe’s passing reminds us all, that the Golden Years don’t always shine brightly and they pass more quickly than we hoped they would. Joe was gifted with a good lifetime, and he did much good. We wished his,last few might have been brighter, healthier and extended.
Joe, for all the good times, thanks for your friendship.
May God bless you and may you rest in His Peace.
