Joseph M. Pastella's Obituary
Joseph M. Pastella, 72, of Liverpool, NY peacefully departed this world on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Joe fought a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Joe was born on November 9, 1952, in Syracuse, NY. An epic storyteller, talented musician, and devoted father, Joe saw the best in everyone and was quick to lend a helping hand. This was especially true at Pat’s Liverpool Tire, where Joe, as the owner/operator, worked for over 50 years. Beloved by friends and customers throughout Syracuse and beyond, it was difficult to go anywhere without running into someone that knew Joe. In retirement, Joe enjoyed keeping a meticulous lawn and tinkering in the garage. When not in the yard or garage, Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Syracuse Orange, and Buffalo Bills.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Patsy Pastella and Arlene (Robbins) Pastella, and his infant sister, Mary Arnette.
Surviving are his siblings, Michael (Darlena) Pastella, William (Joann) Pastella, and Patricia Pastella; his children Olivia, Avery, Patrick (Kanitha Burns), Lisa (Chris Alexion), and Stefanie (Chetan) Vajapey; his longtime companion and best friend Kelly LaMontagne and her children Megan (Paul) Oliver, Bernie (Alex) Cannon, and Lindsey (Jayson) Sauve; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 4pm to 6pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass in celebration of Joseph’s life will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11:30am in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Baldwinsville. Christian burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
The family sincerely thanks the team at Upstate Cancer Center, especially Dr. Vandermeer, Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Ramovic-Zobic, all the nurses, patient care techs and staff for their unparalleled kindness and compassion throughout Joe’s journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to spread kindness and lend a helping hand to someone in need.
Rest in eternal peace, Joe. You will forever hold a special place in all our hearts.
