Joseph A. Riccardi's Obituary
Joseph A. “Joe” Riccardi, 89, of North Syracuse, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Elderwood at Birchwood. He was born on Syracuse’s Northside, son of the late Giuseppe and Angelina (Mercurio) Riccardi who emigrated from Naples, Italy. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was the proud owner of Riccardi’s Grocery Store for many years, while working at Netti Wholesale. Joe retired as Vice President of wholesale at P&C Foods. He served as local chairman for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Program for 3 years. Joe enjoyed trips to the casino, horseracing, and was the proud owner of Thoroughbred Race Horses.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline A. “Jackie” (Renna) Riccardi in 2004; siblings, Bernard, Pasquale “Boscar”, Louise, Angeline, Emily and Philomena.
Joe is survived by his two sons, Joseph P. (Lillian) Riccardi of N. Syracuse and Paul A. (Joseph Maxsween) Riccardi of Syracuse; his daughter, Angela (Don Williams) Maroun of N. Syracuse; two grandchildren, Nader Maroun and Nadia (Todd) Campbell; one great-grandson, Griffin Campbell; one step-granddaughter, Elisbeth Williams (Jeff Portorsnok); two step great-grandsons, Thomas Williams and Devon Williams, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff on the 2nd floor of Elderwood for their care and compassion. They also are thankful for the many relatives and friends who visited Joe, especially his loyal friends, Anita and Vince Genecco.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
