Josephine A. (Valerio) Morga's Obituary
Josephine A. (Valerio) Morga, 98, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital on Thursday, March 19, 2015. She was born and raised on Rider Avenue in Syracuse and lived there until she was 80. Most recently, she resided at The Villas at Summerfield. Josephine, known as “Babe”, was the youngest and last of eight children. She was a graduate of Central High School. A lifetime communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, Josephine was a member of the choir as well as one of the original Pompeian Players.
She was predeceased by her parents, Domanico Nicola Valerio and Giuseppina (DeStefano); her husband, Vincent V. Morga in 2008 and her seven siblings.
Josephine is survived by her two daughters, Valerie (William) Hanbury of Skaneateles and Suzanne (Fred Popp) Cowin of Syracuse; her two sons, Stephen (Mary) Morga of New Braunfels, TX and David (Terry) Morga of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson and her extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Josephine’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the “Benefit for Nora Johnston”, c/o of Erin Morga, 921 Myrtle Street, Syracuse, NY 13204. Nora is Josephine’s 16 month old great-granddaughter who recently underwent a liver transplant.
