Kathleen (Downes) McCabe-Crouse's Obituary
Kathleen McCabe-Crouse, 65, passed away on April 21, 2020 at Upstate University Hospital.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Jeff Crouse; two children, Mike (Tricia) McCabe and Molly McCabe; one grandchild, Quinn; seven siblings, Mike (Krystin) Downes, Tim (Patty) Downes, Tom (Maureen) Downes, Mary Downes Welker, Maggie (Bill) Washburn, Patty (Peter) McCluskey and Dan (Anne) Downes; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her brother, John (Karen) Downes; and her parents, Mike and Joan Downes.
Born March 19, 1955, the oldest of nine children, Kathy was a natural leader and trusted advisor to her siblings. She attended St. Anthony of Padua High School and earned two degrees from Onondaga Community College, later serving as President of the Alumni Committee. Never shy with her words, she was the perfect combination of grit and compassion, strength and vulnerability. Kathy loved music and will be remembered singing in harmony with her mom and dad and doing the Charleston center stage at family gatherings.
Kathy was close to God and led a life of service, as a mother, nurse, and advocate for those who suffered from addiction. Kathy was fiercely loyal, caring for both of her parents in their final days. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend.
In recent years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jeff, and cherished time with her family, especially her grandson, Quinn. Most of her time was spent volunteering, bringing strength and hope to those in need at the Helio Health (formerly Syracuse Behavior Healthcare), Crouse Chemical Dependency Treatment Services, and Ophelia’s Place. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Upstate 2 North and the staff at PMR.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to Ophelia's Place, 407 Tulip St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
