Ingrid & I met Louis on the occasion of his visits with Denise & Domenic here in Florida. We remember him to be a proud gentleman with a sharp wit and a twinkle in his eye. He tolerated my Spanish and surprised Ingrid with his knowledge of German. He entertained us with stories of his many experiences, his many jokes and, during the Super Bowl in 2018, he impressed us all with his knowledge of American football! We will miss future visits with this fine gentleman and share in the grief that all who knew him will surely experience. He certainly left this world a better place for so many reasons and he will be missed. May he rest in peace.

We have known Mr. Palomeque for a very long time. He had a great passion for life, but more importantly, for his family and friends. They meant the world to him and he loved them dearly.

I enjoyed working with him on some design projects over the years. But more importantly I enjoyed the personal time we shared.

I remember very early on in our relationship how competitive he was. We used to play racquetball at the Y, and he enjoyed winning.

We shared many dinners and fun events together. He was a good mentor, and he always had some encouraging words to impart.

The last time we were together we visited the Kennedy Space Center and we took a picture together (the picture was superimposing our headshot onto an astronaut suit) we had a great time. We will treasure our memories and we will miss him a lot.

May God hold him in the palm of His hand.

We are very appreciative to have known you, Louis.

Grandpa,

I hope you are at peace and are with Grandma and my mother, Elena. I hope you’re able to share with them how much I’ve grown since their passings, and that I have a beautiful one year old daughter of my own. Being able to video chat with you so you could meet your great granddaughter before your passing meant a lot to me. I’ll be sure to keep yours and Grandma’s memory alive by sharing childhood stories of Grandma and Grandpa Palomeque with her.

I’m grateful for those childhood memories. I always felt loved and cared for at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. I’ll always remember gourmet breakfasts, putt putt golf, and making up silly songs.

Please give Grandma a big hug for me!

Late last year we spoke over the phone, reminiscing about his life. He reminded me how much time we spent together when I was young. Going to the Old Country Buffet and driving in his BMW. Exposing me to math, music, engineering. Mowing his lawn and helping out around the house. He said, "You and me, we were pals."

Grandpa was my friend, maybe my first, and that's how I will remember him.

Today we celebrate my dad's long and interesting life. He traveled far and wide during his 93-year journey. My husband says that my dad was one of the smartest and most well-rounded people he knew.

He truly was a lifelong learner and was able to converse on so many topics, from literature to geography, to science, mathematics, and politics. He loved languages and was always eager to share his knowledge with anyone who was interested.

My daughter Maria said that he had a kind of magnetic energy about him. It didn’t matter whether he was telling a silly story or trying to explain the laws of thermodynamics—he had an intensity that brought you into his orbit and made you feel like you were a part of it. You don’t meet people with energy like that every day; you’re lucky if you meet one in a lifetime.

I really believe that he was a unique individual and will always be proud that he was my father.

When I think of my father-in-law, the word “gentleman” comes quickly to my mind. It’s the polished shoes, the dress shirt and slacks (shorts when he came to camp or the golf course!), the Mercedes Benz in the driveway, the sparkling watches on his wrist, hearing him saying "madam" to be polite and respectful. Charming. They don’t make them like that anymore. Love you, Dad…

Grandpa,

I can hear your laugh, the sound that coins would make when you’d jingle them in your pocket, the way you’d say the nicknames of all your grandkids with the thick Spanish accent that we all loved (and loved to make fun of)... I’m going to miss hearing you say, “there Twigs!”, when you wanted my attention. My childhood was brighter and sillier because of you and grandma. I have so many great memories. Thank you.
