Mario J. Cerroni's Obituary
Mario J. Cerroni, 83, of Baldwinsville, passed away on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Deferiet, NY, son of the late James and Lucy (Carcasole) Cerroni. A Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific aboard the USS General R. M. Blatchford during WWII. Mario was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and earned two masters degrees from St. Lawrence University. He was a public school teacher for 32 years, retiring after 27 years with the Watertown City School District where he was a high school American History teacher. Mario was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by many. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Cerroni; grandson, Michael Cerroni; brothers, Phillip and Louis Cerroni; sisters, Anna Intorcia and Angelina Evereth. Mario is survived by his 2 sons, Joseph J. (Linda Tassa) Cerroni of Baldwinsville and Peter M. (Constance) Cerroni of New Hampshire; daughter, Nina (James) Cally of New Jersey; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Nellie Kelley of Carthage and Phyllis (J. Manning) Brown of Colorado; daughter-in-law, Patricia Strife and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Carthage, NY. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday, May 21 from 10 to 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of his grandson by donating to "The Michael Cerroni Scholarship Fund", c/o Carthage Central School Superintendent's Office, 25059 County Route 197, Carthage, NY 13619. Mario's family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Unit 2-4 at St. Joseph’s Hospital for all their caring and concern.
