Mary (Duggan) Fortino's Obituary
Mary (Duggan) Fortino, of Cicero, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on July 14, 2020. She was born in Syracuse to the late Marie Lane and David B. Duggan and graduated from Moravia High School in 1953 and the College of St. Rose in 1957. Mary taught French in Broadalbin, Cazenovia, and Baldwinsville, NY. Mary married Robert Fortino on July 18, 1964 and later spent many years home raising her three children. She returned to teaching in 1980 for North Syracuse Central Schools. Before her retirement in 1999, Mary helped students who were struggling in traditional school settings to earn their GED. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero, a faith formation teacher, sang in chancel and funeral choirs, volunteered at Anna’s Pantry, and was a member of Respect Life Committee. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband, Bob and grandson, Christopher Michael Ordway.
She is survived by her loving children, Maria (Nathaniel) Ordway, David Fortino, and Elizabeth (Peter) Cannella; grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Ordway, Meghan Cannella and Joseph Cannella;
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary’s life will take place at 10 am on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Sacred Heart Church in Cicero. She will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Joseph’s House for Women, 802 Court St. Syracuse, NY 13208.
