For well over 50 years, Both John & Mary have always been very special people to the Murray family. As a young person growing up, saying “hello” every Sunday to them at St Andrew’s church was a highlight for me. As an adult, it was a very pleasant surprise to realize we shopped at the same Wegman’s. We would connect on many Saturday’s on our two families happenings. It was after one such meetup that it occurred to me to get the two of them together with my folks. If I and perhaps another sibling could join in, that would be the icing on the cake. In November of 2019, I made it happen for my father’s 91st birthday. So glad I did as John left us the next year. Earlier this year, our parents passed 3 months and 3 days apart. Mary called me right after Mom died and we had a lovely conversation. Mary was so supportive and kind. It reminded me of a story Mom had told me about way long ago. Mom & Dad had 8 of us kids. When Dad was running for a political office around 1970, the post standard shared a picture of our large family in the newspaper. Soon after & for quite awhile, once a week, some sort of dinner casserole would arrive on our front porch after dark. Mom said she could never confirm it but she looked out one dark night and saw Mary Sgroi walking down our sidewalk. At the 2019 birthday party I decided to give credit and thanks where it was due and asked your Mom about it. She just smiled her kind & humble Mary Sgroi smile. What a wonderful woman. My sincere condolences to all of you. Your parents were the salt of the earth. Really & truly. I’m sorry to miss her service as I’ll be out of state. Much love and peace to you.
